SINGING LESSONS FOR ADULT BEGINNERS — NYC

Have you always wanted to sing, but assumed you just weren’t “good at it”?

Maybe someone told you years ago that you were tone-deaf. Maybe you can hear what you want to sing, but your voice doesn’t seem to ever come out quite how you hope it will. Maybe you love music but feel like singing is in someone else’s lane.

Singing is a skill. Most people who struggle with singing were never actually taught the individual skills underneath it.

Pitch matching is a skill. Rhythm is a skill. Vocal coordination is a skill. Breath, resonance, articulation and musicianship can all be developed.

I teach private voice lessons for adults at every level, including complete beginners who have never taken a lesson before.

We start with where your voice is now and build from there.

Depending on what you need, we may work on:

• Matching pitch accurately

• Hearing when you’re sharp, flat or on the note

• Rhythm and basic musicianship

• Building vocal range

• Making your voice feel less tight or effortful

• Understanding chest voice, head voice and registration

• Singing more consistently from day to day

• Learning songs you actually want to sing

• Developing confidence singing in front of another person

• Understanding what your voice is doing instead of guessing

I have taught singers and performers for more than 15 years, from total beginners to successful professionals.

My approach combines voice science and a background in contemporary commercial music vocal techniques, classical technique, Alexander Technique and Linklater voice work.

I don’t want you to spend years trying to imitate sounds you don’t understand or waiting for a teacher to tell you whether something was “good.”

When something works, I want you to know why it worked. When something goes wrong, I want you to have tools for figuring out what changed, or what needs to change!

The goal is to build a voice you understand—and can rely on. So you can LOVE your voice and let singing be the joyful, enlivening activity that everyone has a right to enjoy!
